Massage for pregnancy aches and discomfort on the Gold Coast

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body. As your bump grows, your centre of gravity shifts, the lower back and hips take on more load, ligaments soften, and everyday tasks start to pull on tired muscles. Add disrupted sleep and swelling in the legs and feet, and it is no wonder so many mums-to-be feel achy and worn out. Safe, supported pregnancy massage is a gentle, drug-free way to ease that discomfort and give you some much-needed care.

At our Runaway Bay studio, Laura offers side-lying remedial pregnancy massage for the second and third trimesters (from 12 weeks), tailored entirely to what is comfortable and appropriate for you.

Common pregnancy aches we help with

Every pregnancy is different, but the discomforts we most often help ease include:

  • Lower back ache from the growing bump and shifting posture (see lower back pain)
  • Hip and pelvic tightness and discomfort
  • Swollen, heavy feet and ankles
  • Shoulder and neck tension
  • Restless, broken sleep

How pregnancy massage helps

Delivered safely and gently, pregnancy massage helps to:

  • Ease lower back, hip and pelvic tension carrying the extra load
  • Relieve tired shoulders and neck
  • Support circulation and comfort in swollen legs and feet
  • Encourage relaxation and better sleep
  • Give you a calm, nurturing pause during a demanding time

Safe, supported and side-lying

Comfort and safety come first. From the second trimester, treatment is done in a supported side-lying position with pillows and bolsters — never flat on your stomach, and not flat on your back for extended periods. Pressure is moderate and considered, focusing on the areas carrying the load. Certain areas are approached with extra care during pregnancy, and Laura will always check in and adjust to how you are feeling on the day.

An honest note on our scope

We believe in being upfront. Pregnancy massage is a standard part of Laura's Diploma of Remedial Massage training, and she delivers it safely within her remedial scope. She does not hold a separate, dedicated pregnancy-massage specialist certification. If you would prefer a therapist with that specific specialisation — or if your pregnancy is high-risk or complicated — we will happily encourage you to seek one out, and we would rather refer you on than take something outside our scope. When in doubt, please check with your GP, midwife or obstetrician first, and message Laura with any questions.

When to check with your care team first

Please speak with your GP, midwife or obstetrician before booking if you have a high-risk pregnancy, pre-eclampsia or high blood pressure, a history of blood clots, significant or sudden swelling, bleeding, or any pregnancy complication. Massage is generally considered safe in a healthy second and third trimester pregnancy, but your care team knows your situation best, and we are glad to work in with their advice.

Health fund rebates

Remedial pregnancy massage is claimable with most private health extras that include remedial massage, as Laura is ATMS-registered. Mention it when booking so your invoice is prepared correctly.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is pregnancy massage safe?
For a healthy second and third trimester pregnancy, gentle, supported pregnancy massage is generally considered safe. It is done in a side-lying position with careful pressure. If your pregnancy is high-risk or complicated, please check with your GP, midwife or obstetrician first.
From how many weeks can I have pregnancy massage?
Laura offers pregnancy massage from 12 weeks, through the second and third trimesters. For the first trimester, we generally recommend waiting and checking with your care team.
What position will I be in during the massage?
A supported side-lying position with pillows and bolsters — never flat on your stomach, and not flat on your back for extended periods. Comfort and safety come first, and Laura adjusts to how you are feeling.
Can pregnancy massage help my lower back and hip pain?
Yes. Lower back, hip and pelvic discomfort from the growing bump and shifting posture are among the most common reasons mums-to-be come in, and gentle remedial work can ease that load. See our lower back pain page.
Can it help with swollen feet and ankles?
It can support comfort and circulation in tired, swollen legs and feet. However, sudden or significant swelling should be checked with your care team, as it can occasionally signal something that needs attention.
Does Laura have a specialist pregnancy qualification?
Pregnancy massage is a standard part of Laura's Diploma of Remedial Massage, and she delivers it safely within her remedial scope. She does not hold a separate dedicated pregnancy-massage certification. If you would prefer a therapist with that specialisation, we will happily refer you.
Are there times I should not have a pregnancy massage?
Please check with your GP, midwife or obstetrician first if you have a high-risk pregnancy, pre-eclampsia or high blood pressure, a history of blood clots, significant or sudden swelling, bleeding, or any complication. We are glad to work in with their advice.
Will the pressure be firm or gentle?
Moderate and considered, focused on the areas carrying the extra load. Certain areas are approached with extra care during pregnancy, and Laura checks in throughout.
Can massage help me sleep better during pregnancy?
Often, yes. By easing tension and encouraging relaxation, pregnancy massage can support better rest during a time when sleep is frequently broken.
Is pregnancy massage claimable on health funds?
Yes. Remedial pregnancy massage is claimable with most private health extras that include remedial massage, as Laura is ATMS-registered. Mention it when booking.
How much does it cost, and where are you?
Remedial pregnancy massage is A$119 for 60 minutes and A$159 for 90 minutes. A 10% surcharge applies on public holidays. We are at Shop 4, 465 Oxley Drive, Runaway Bay QLD 4216, serving the wider Gold Coast.
